Healthy Families, Stronger Communities
Babies & Children Chiropractic in Colac
Gentle, age-appropriate chiropractic care in a supportive, family-friendly environment, with clear explanations and parents involved at every step.
How your child sits at a desk, carries a school bag or copes with a growth spurt and weekend sport can raise real questions for parents. Chiropractic care for children at Kinfolk in Colac starts with a gentle, age-appropriate assessment and clear explanations, so you can make informed decisions about your child’s care.
Care Centred on Your Child and Your Family
At Kinfolk Chiropractic, families are at the heart of everything we do. Our approach to caring for babies and children prioritises calm communication, gentle techniques and an environment that feels welcoming for children and their parents alike.
We recognise that each child is different, with their own personality, activity levels and way of moving. Our chiropractors take time to listen, involve parents in every step, and adapt care to the individual without pressure or assumptions.
Our centre spaces, from the adjustment rooms to the family-friendly waiting areas, are designed so your child can feel at ease during their visit.

Chiropractic Care From Infancy to the Teenage Years
At Kinfolk, chiropractic care for children focuses on age-appropriate assessment, gentle chiropractic care where it is clinically appropriate, and practical information for parents. We aim to be one part of your child’s broader health care team, working alongside your GP, maternal and child health nurse, paediatrician and allied health providers rather than replacing them.
We aim to be part of a child’s broader wellbeing-support team, offering attentive care that works alongside medical and allied health guidance.

Newborns & Infants
Some parents choose to bring their newborn in for a gentle check after birth, as the birth process may place stress on a baby’s body. Care for infants is very gentle and adapted to their size, age and developmental needs. Any care for a baby begins with a thorough history and a gentle, age-appropriate assessment, and is only provided where our chiropractor considers it clinically appropriate and you consent. Our chiropractors do not use high-velocity spinal adjustments for babies and children under two years of age.

Babies & Toddlers
As babies start rolling, crawling and walking, some families look for support to understand movement patterns, keep track of developmental milestones and primitive reflex integration, and feel confident through early physical transitions.

Children (Preschool & School Age)
As children grow and become more active, our chiropractors can support families with education on posture, movement habits and general spinal health. School-aged children may also see us for back or neck aches, including aches parents notice around sport, study or screen time, with assessment first and care only where it is clinically appropriate. You can read more on our posture correction page. Chiropractic care may also support your child to thrive, including at school and with behaviour, through nervous system regulation.

Teenagers
During adolescence, rapid growth and increased activity can lead to changes in posture and movement patterns. Our team listens to teenagers and works with them on posture, movement and back and neck symptoms, including those linked to sport, which you can read more about on our sports injuries page.
Across all ages, care at Kinfolk is:
- Gentle and adapted to your child’s age and size
- Communicated clearly to parents and children
- Paced to your child, and only provided with your consent
- Focused on movement, posture awareness and informed discussion
- Focused on supporting nervous system function and regulation
We may also share practical information, simple movement recommendations and resources, and keep you informed at each step.
Working Alongside Your Child's GP and Other Health Providers
Chiropractic care is one part of your child’s health care, not a replacement for it. Your GP, maternal and child health nurse or paediatrician is the right first point of contact for any concerns about your child’s feeding, settling, sleep, growth, development, hearing or behaviour, and you should seek medical care promptly if your child is unwell.
If anything in our assessment indicates your child would benefit from medical review, we will recommend that you see your GP, and with your permission we are happy to share information with your child’s other health providers.
Your Child's First Three Visits
New clients at Kinfolk follow our three-visit start process, adapted to your child’s age. For babies and young children, what happens after the first assessment depends on what we find, and not every child will need further visits.

Visit One: History and Assessment
We take time to understand your child's health history and your questions or concerns as a parent. The assessment is gentle, age-appropriate and explained clearly. X-rays are not routine for children; onsite digital X-rays are only considered where clinically indicated, and always discussed with you first.

Visit Two: First Adjustment (If Appropriate)
If care is recommended following assessment and you agree, this visit is your child's first adjustment, using gentle techniques adapted to their age and size and introduced in a calm, supportive way. For babies and children under two, this does not include high-velocity spinal adjustments. For children who are walking, generally from two years of age, the visit can also include a supervised run through the HyperVibe platforms and the yoga room, if your chiropractor has checked at the first visit that this is suitable for your child.

Visit Three: Your Child's Care Roadmap
We discuss what we have observed and answer your questions. If ongoing care is recommended, we build a care roadmap around your child's needs and your family's goals, always involving parents in the decision. There is no set number of visits: care is only recommended where it is clinically appropriate, and you are welcome to ask questions or pause care at any time.
The Team Caring for Your Child

We aim to create experiences that feel calm, reassuring and respectful for both children and their families. You can meet the people who look after you on our Our Team page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is chiropractic care suitable for babies and children?
Care for babies and children is adapted to their age, size and individual needs, and is only provided following assessment, professional clinical judgement and your consent. High-velocity spinal adjustments are not used for children under two. As with any health care, side effects can occur. The most common are short-lived soreness, stiffness or irritability after care, and more serious reactions are uncommon but possible (Todd et al. 2015). Your chiropractor will explain the possible risks for your child before any care begins, and you can ask questions or decide not to proceed at any time. If chiropractic care is not appropriate for your child, we will tell you and recommend who to see instead.
Should I see my GP first?
For any concern about your child's health, development or wellbeing, your GP, maternal and child health nurse or paediatrician is the right first point of contact. You do not need a referral to see us, and we are happy to work alongside your child's other health providers.
Do I need a referral for my child?
No referral is required to book a paediatric chiropractic appointment at Kinfolk. You can book online or call the clinic on (03) 5234 0800.
Can I stay with my child during the visit?
Yes. Parents and carers are required to be present and involved throughout their child's appointment.
What does a chiropractic adjustment look like for a child?
Care for children uses gentle techniques adapted to their age and size, and high-velocity spinal adjustments are not used for children under two. Your chiropractor will explain any technique before it is used and will only go ahead with your consent.
Are X-rays used for children?
X-rays are not routine for children. They are only taken when clinically appropriate and after discussion with you.
